Happy New Year! As we head into what is traditionally the slowest month in the restaurant world, we thought it would be a good time to look forward at some tech trends that have the potential to make 2016 more successful than ever!
Today we’re kicking off a three-installment series that will take a look at three technology trends that are helping restaurants be more efficient and save money at the same time (something we’d all like more of in 2016!).
The trends we’ll be discussing are: The Internet of Things, Big Data, and lastly, Real-Time Ordering for Inventory. Each week, we’ll take one trend and dive deep into the subject matter and answer questions like, “What exactly is big data?” and “How can it help me and why should I care?”
Wherever you are on the scale of implementation – whether you’re considering it or whether it’s a done deal – it’s a good idea to be aware of what’s going on in the industry.
Here’s a short intro on each topic. Be sure to join us each week of the series! We can’t wait to hear your questions and comments.
The Internet of Things (IoT)
Simply put, IoT is the concept of connecting any device with and on/off switch to the Internet and/or to each other.
Big Data
Big data are extremely large data sets that are analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends and associations, especially relating to human behavior and interactions. When analyzed and used correctly, this data can help owners optimize operations, create better pricing strategies and truly understand their customers and their habits.
Real-Time Ordering for Inventory
Also known as Just In Time (JIT) delivery, is a management system in which materials (inventory) are acquired only as demand requires. This means that products can be delivered at their freshest, thus reducing inventory and waste.
Be sure to check back next week for our first installment as we discuss the Internet of Things (IoT).
